Painting the way to health

Painting the way to health at Qatar National Sports Day

Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q) joined the fun at three events staged by the university’s strategic partners as part of Qatar National Sports Day.

Canvases from WCMC-Q’s Paint Your Healthy Future campaign were placed at the Supreme Council of Health’s activity zone in Al-Rifaa Street, the Qatar Petroleum/ExxonMobil event at Al-Ghazal Club and at the Occidental Petroleum of Qatar event at the St. Regis Hotel.

Participants were encouraged to pick up brushes and paint pictures envisaging their own healthy futures while taking a break from activities that ranged from table tennis, beach volleyball, snooker and golf to football, tennis, basketball, yoga and a walking marathon.

The canvases proved popular with all the visitors and saw two high-profile guests try their hand at painting at Al-Ghazal Club: His Excellency Dr. Mohamed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry; and Mr Bart Cahir, President and General Manager of ExxonMobil Qatar, both picked up a brush and helped color in the canvas.

Over at Al Rifaa Street, WCMC-Q was also in the thick of the action with Dr. Javaid Sheikh, Dean of the college, and Dr. Ravinder Mamtani, Associate Dean for Global and Public Health, both joining an organized walk.

At all the events, representatives of WCMC-Q handed out pedometers, BMI calculators and information associated with health care.

During the Paint Your Healthy Future event, WCMC-Q has placed canvases at locations across Doha for the public to paint on as part of the university’s ongoing national health campaign, Sahtak Awalan “Your Health First”. The five-year Sahtak Awalan campaign aims to raise awareness of public health issues and encourage healthy lifestyles in line with Qatar’s National Health Strategy 2011-2016, and is supported by the Supreme Council of Health, Qatar Petroleum, ExxonMobil, Occidental Petroleum of Qatar and Vodafone Qatar.
