Heart disease prevention

To prevent heart disease, take the following steps:

  •    Monitor, prevent and control high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes.
  •    Maintain a healthy body weight.
  •    Engage in regular physical activity: adults should engage in moderate level physical activities for at least 30 minutes on most days of the week.
  •    Stay away from smoking and tobacco products.
  •    Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, lowering or cutting out added salt or sodium.
  •    Eat less saturated fat and cholesterol.
  •    Consult with your medical doctor when needed. Preventive check-ups at periodic intervals is always a good idea.
