Putting Your Health First – Easy wins

Looking after your health doesn’t always have to mean making radical or difficult changes to your life. There are plenty of simple and easy things you can do to start to improve your health. Try these six easy tips and see how much better you feel.

  1. Cut some sugar from your diet. If you take sugar in your tea or coffee, reduce the amount by half. It only takes about two weeks for your taste buds to get used to the new taste – soon you could ditch the sugar from your hot drinks altogether.
  2. Add a fish oil or flaxseed oil supplement to your diet. These oils contain omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids that have been linked to better heart health.
  3. Soak up some rays to boost your vitamin D. Studies have shown that the majority of both men and women in Qatar are vitamin D deficient, which can lead to serious health problems like osteoporosis (brittle bones) and may be linked to diabetes. Expose your arms and legs to the sun for 10-15 minutes per day to get the vitamin D you need. Be careful not to burn, especially if you are fair-skinned and see your physician if you think you are severely vitamin D deficient.
  4. Grab some zzzzs. Resist the temptation to stay up late watching television and instead get to bed early. Men generally need eight hours of sleep per night, while women need nine.
  5. Drink a large glass of water before a meal. You will feel full more quickly and will eat less.
  6. Go for a walk. Exercise doesn’t have to mean hitting the gym. If you currently do very little exercise, a 30-minute stroll three times a week will do wonders for your health.

Remember, it’s your life, your future, Your Health First.
